Sermon Notes:

John 20:1-8 — Early on Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. 2She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord’s body out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” 3Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb. 4They were both running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5He stooped and looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he didn’t go in. 6Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, 7while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings. 8Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed.

The resurrection is…

more than a historical event; it is a __________________ to experience.

the day Jesus said, “don’t _____________________________!”

1. Our _______________ is cancelled.

Colossians 2:13-14 — You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.

2 Corinthians 5:17 — This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

2. Our __________________ is changed.

Romans 8:15-17 — …you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” 16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. 17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs.

3. Our ________________ is clear.

Romans 8:11 — The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

I John 5:13 — I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.
