Sermon Notes:

Misfit: something that does not ___________________… A person whose behavior or attitude _____________________________.

I Corinthians 1:26-29 – Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. 27Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 28God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. 29As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God… “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.”

God ____________ people others overlook and He sees the _____________________ in people others disregard.

Matthew 3:1-6 – In those days John the Baptist came to the Judean wilderness and began preaching. His message was, 2“Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” 3The prophet Isaiah was speaking about John when he said, “He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the LORD’s coming! Clear the road for him!’” 4John’s clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. For food, he ate locusts and wild honey. 5People from Jerusalem and from all of Judea and all over the Jordan Valley went out to see and hear John. 6And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River.

HOW TO BE A MISFIT?

1. His ______________________ was radical.

John 1:6-8 — God sent John the Baptist, 7to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. 8John was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light.

2. His _____________________ was radical.

“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” – Jim Elliot

3. His _____________________ was radical.

John 1:27 – …”I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandal.”

John 3:30 – He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.

When you are controlled by _____________________________, others may see a misfit, but God sees someone ready to change the world.
