Our Story
Pastor Scott grew up in Lynchburg at Thomas Road Baptist Church under the ministry of Dr. Jerry Falwell. During his second year of college, God called Scott into full-time ministry. After graduation, he spent the next 14 years in student ministry. In early 2009, God began to draw him toward planting a church. Soon afterwards, he reconnected with the leadership of TRBC, and they discussed the possibility of starting a church in the Southside area.
While our area is known as the city of churches, more than 70% were not actively involved in a church. So, in the summer of 2009, Scott and his family moved to Danville to reach those who were hurting and living without hope.
Dan River Church officially began on October 4 at George Washington High School. After meeting there for just a few months, God blessed us with a permanent location in January of 2010.
DRC strives to connect with our community with a heart of generosity. We are never more like Jesus than when we give because He first gave Himself for us. We believe every person deserves to hear about the love of Jesus in a way that they can understand.
It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are from, God has a plan and a purpose for you. As Romans 15:13 says, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him.” It is our prayer that everyone would know the hope, joy, and peace that God offers. It is never too late. Today can be the day you discover the life that God has waiting for you. We invite you to join us this Sunday at Dan River Church.
